Brooklyn, New York, April 6, 2026

Eyebeam has appointed Julia Kaganskiy as Executive Director, effective today, April 6, 2026. An institution builder, independent curator, and cultural strategist, Kaganskiy brings more than 16 years of experience developing innovative cultural programs at the intersection of art, science, and technology. She was the founding Director of NEW INC at the New Museum (2014–2018), the first museum-led cultural incubator, and served as Global Editor of VICE Media’s The Creators Project (2010–2013), a groundbreaking media platform and cultural festival program. In the past seven years, Kaganskiy has worked as an independent curator and cultural strategist, collaborating with a global network of art-and-technology institutions including HeK (Basel), Borusan Contemporary (Istanbul), and LAS Art Foundation (Berlin).

Kaganskiy succeeds Sheetal Prajapati, who served as Interim Executive Director and guided Eyebeam with care through a pivotal period of leadership transition. Building on a strong foundation shaped over the past decade by former Executive Director Roddy Schrock, Prajapati’s stewardship ensured continuity while advancing Eyebeam’s mission in meaningful ways. During her tenure, Eyebeam launched Speculating on Plurality, an ongoing program series exploring new frameworks, interventions, and inventions that address the issues most vital to building the futures we seek. The series continues this spring with a new artist residency geared towards supporting emerging artists launching in April. The residency builds on Eyebeam’s long history of providing artists with funding and resources to develop bold, challenging work that reflects on how technology is shaping the present moment. To date, Eyebeam has supported over 550 artists through its fellowship and hundreds more through its exhibitions and public programs.

“Eyebeam was a formative part of my early experiences with art and technology. Its commitment to supporting artists in radical experimentation and critical inquiry has indelibly shaped my values and approach,” shares Kaganskiy. “In the early 2010s, when I was editor of The Creators Project, I co-organized several Art Hackathons with Eyebeam staff. I also frequently featured Eyebeam fellows like Heather Dewey-Hagborg, Tahir Hemphill, and Zach Lieberman. Back then, Eyebeam was one of the only places in New York where you might encounter artists thinking about digital surveillance, the poetics of code, or the cultural power of memes. It was wildly ahead of its time. I step into this role with enormous respect for Eyebeam’s legacy and genuine excitement about where it can go next.”

On behalf of the Board, I am thrilled to welcome Julia Kaganskiy as Executive Director of Eyebeam,” said co-chair of the organization’s Board of Directors, Emma Canarick. “Julia is exactly the kind of leader that Eyebeam needs in this moment, bringing with her a rare combination of visionary thinking, institution-building and a deep commitment to artists working at the intersection of art and technology. I’m especially excited to partner with her during this pivotal moment in Eyebeam’s trajectory, as we expand our programs and strengthen the resources we provide to support artists and their ideas. I look forward to working closely with Julia to build on Eyebeam’s legacy and shape its next chapter.”

Kaganskiy steps into the leadership role at a time of renewal and transformation for the organization. She adds, “The art and tech landscape, and our relationship to technology as a whole, look remarkably different from when Eyebeam was first founded more than 25 years ago. Yet the need for an organization that helps us orient and make sense of technology’s impact on society, and imagine how it might be otherwise, has never been more urgent. Eyebeam is at an inflection point, and I’m excited to explore with the community, staff and Board how we can best adapt to meet the moment. But one thing I’m passionate about continuing is our unwavering support of artists who are thinking deeply about technology and our collective future.”
