Agency Residency
This year at Eyebeam, the theme of AGENCY will guide a shared research agenda for our artists, staff, audiences, and collaborators.
Applications are now open for our Virtual Residency (Fall 2026) and our NYC Residency (Spring 2027), both of which will explore the theme through critical inquiry and making, supported by funding, mentorship, and access to tools and expertise from Eyebeam's network.

We’re looking for projects that explore:
• Who has agency? Who acts? And who is acted upon?
• What does agency become once it no longer belongs to a single actor (human or machine)?
• How to reimagine AI systems through the lens of collective governance, repair, rehearsal or mischief
• How to repurpose AI systems toward new tools, methods, and models for the public good
Virtual Residency
Fall 2026, Online
Open to US-based artists located outside of New York who will each receive a $2,000 stipend, along with mentorship, and access to tools and technical expertise through Eyebeam's network.

Eligibility −
• Applicants must apply as individuals; collectives and collaborative teams are not eligible for this cycle.
• Applicants may not be currently enrolled in a full-time degree program.
• Applicants may not be participating in or committed to another residency during the residency term.
• Virtual Residency Only: Applicants must be based in the United States, outside of New York City, and remain US-based for the full residency term.
• NYC Residency Only: Applicants must live in New York City, within its five boroughs, and be able to work on site at Eyebeam at least one day a week for the full residency term.
