Easy Is Not a Concept presents a selection of works by Nancy Nowacek. These sculptural, performative, and digitally-based works embody latent systems like bureaucracy, urban planning, infrastructure and software. This process often requires the artist and teams of collaborators, to struggle against nearly insurmountable forces of nature, gravity, and processing rates. Along the way, Nancy Nowacek is able to reclaim the body itself as a form of technology.
These works include gestural coding software, unusual Sketchup files, and sculptural fragments of crowd-built bridges suggest new choreographies for the body. Whether wrangling information, hauling structures, or dancing code, these platforms show how slow, hard work can create new systems that make more sense for our bodies.
