TV

In April the Fairytale Fashion Show made it on ABC News. You can view the clip here.

Last fall, I had a lot of fun being a mentor for an episode of PBS SciGirls which aired last week. I worked with 11 year old SciGirls Ariella, Hallie, and Sophia to create a super hero princess dress for the Fairytale Fashion launch party. Watch the Episode here.

This morning Hillary Mason and I were on Good Day New York spreading the good word about hackers. FoxNY shows that we are helpful hackers, not harmful hackers :)

OMG I'm on .TV is post-analog TV station broadcasting in NYC on channel 14. We're broadcasting internet content to your TV, through a low-power TV transmitter. The website acts as an aggregator of online video content. You get to create the shows, vote on the shows, and participate in the whole process.

The TV station will run for a period of 45 days during which it will explore new content broadcast through an old nostalgic format. Analog television has been given the kiss of death, we're reviving it for a few more days. So enjoy it while it lasts.

There are a lot of great things about analog TV in addition to its fuzzy format. We love the lack of control. On the web, so many options create a panic of possibilities. On OMG TV, there is no fast forward button or other videos to distract you. In OMG TV's simplicity you can sit back and watch one video at a time.

Matt Ortega was born in 1985. As an artist working with sound, moving images, and collage, his work combines the formal and conceptual qualities of each medium. Hoping to use art democratically and to reinforce community, his work is inspired by the everyday and by the limitations of Do It Yourself methods. He recently started to work with found and cultural materials after taking interest in the theoretical ideas behind DJ culture. He believes that the current state of information overload can be remedied by remixing and recycling these materials and promote an ethical use of information.
