From The Right To Be Lazy. Ned Ludd was a fictitious leader. Costumes, jokes, and more. Here’s an excerpt:

“The Luddites, as they soon became known, were dead serious about their protests. … But they were also making fun, dispatching officious-sounding letters that began, ‘Whereas by the Charter’…and ended ‘Ned Lud’s Office, Sherwood Forest.’ Invoking the sly banditry of Nottinghamshire’s own Robin Hood suited their sense of social justice. The taunting, world-turned-upside-down character of their protests also led them to march in women’s clothes as ‘General Ludd’s wives.’

Kishlak Dwellers is a 2/3D animated video based on A.R. Luria's 1933 book, Cognitive Development. Goss's animation explores the differences between speaking and writing, as well as the culture clash resulting from the 1930s Soviet expansion into Central Asia. This project extends the grammar and aesthetics of animation by combining narrative and documentary impulses seldom seen in the genre.

Goss references narrative and documentary traditions in her work. For the past six years she has been presenting experimental video works internationally at venues such as the New York Video Festival, the Rotterdam Film Festival, Women with Vision at the Walker Art Center and the ISEA Conference in Nagoya, Japan.

World of Awe: mRB (2002)

Yael Kanarek and Bnode (Judith Gieseler and Innes Yates) elaborate on Kanarek's ongoing multi-media project, World of Awe, an original narrative that uses the ancient genre of the traveler's tale to explore the connections between storytelling, travel, memory, and technology. Here, the artists investigate the diffusion of techno-scientific knowledge into popular culture through a fictional supertoy -- the mRB. In the World of Awe's Traveler's Journal, the mRB is a prototype for the moodRingBaby. Resembling an advanced Tamagotchi, the device is capable of holding conversations and telling stories. The project utilizes a 3D web interface that allows the user to browse various aspects of the mRB for clues to its origin, experiences, and character. The mRB web experience is augmented by the physical installation, which incorporates spatial, material and organizational themes.
