In the second day of Wordcamp NYC last month I was asked to repeat my Open Source Design presentation in a 5 minutes version for the whole of the conference audience. I just realized somebody uploaded a video of it to YouTube, but since it’s a bit shaky and the image quality could be better I decided to extract the audio from it and post it with my slides. I am blasting through it, but I still thought you might find it valuable. Enjoy and definitely comment if you would…
This Thursday, July 9, 6–8PM at Eyebeam, there will be a panel discussion on fair-use and appropriation within activist and creative practice moderated by Creative Commons product manager and Eyebeam research associate Fred Benenson; artist/curator Mark Tribe, audio-visual remix artist Jonny Wilson (Eclectic Method), Postmasters gallery director Magdalena Sawon, and myself.
On Tuesday, July 7th, I’m taking some students in Eyebeams Digital Day camp out prospecting along the Highline, and chelsea area. If you want to join shoot me an email. A few outside participants are welcome.
Jeff Crowse, Kenseth Armstead, and myself presented our work at the open video conference. There was a great Q&A afterwards that lead to some interesting copyright questions and dialog.
Recipes for an Encounter functions as a literary extension to the 2008 group exhibition "Kits for an Encounter" at Vancouver's Western Front, which consisted of work that actively engages the viewer by providing the necessary components for instigating or troubling the notion of an encounter. This collection of texts, diagrams, and illustrations provides further "how-to" instruction for relational projects in the manner of a recipe book.
