Eyebeam Residents + Fellows talk about their work in X-Lab

X-Lab shares the thinking and techniques behind current work by our fellows and residents via the Sandbox: a space inside X-Lab designed for testing and workshopping new works currently in process. Up to four artists at a time will install their work with a focus on getting feedback from the public and sharing their creative processes. It's an excellent opportunity to meet the artists and learn more about their work directly through their creative practice. Each artist's project is designed to engage visitors and open up new thinking around interactive design.

The public is invited to interact with the artists' works during our X-Lab Open Hours: Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, 12PM – 6PM. Docents will lead visitors through the space and introduce artists during those times.

SCHEDULE OF ARTISTS IN SANDBOX can be found here: eyebeam.org/events/sandbox-at-x-lab

Colors of An Old Beirut - at the first 3D Projection Mapping event in Lebanon

"Horseraces, souks, fruits, crafts, trains, roulettes, steps, neons, roofs, and colors, colors, colors... Colors of an Old Beirut remembers a vibrant city in the 60s in an original 3D mapping animation that leaves walls longing."

Colors of an Old Beirut was specially commissioned by UFA Assurances and was projected for 6 nights during December of 2010 in Martyrs' Square, Lebanon. (ufa3DMappingEvent.com)

Colors of an old Beirut is an original piece merging exclusive footage of Beirut from the 1960s with cutting edge graphics and techniques of 3D projection mapping in a novel amalgam. In this piece commissioned by UFA Assurances, I collaborated with talented New York based video artist Cem Adiyaman to remember old Beirut without being regretful or nostalgic. On the contrary, colors of an old Beirut seeks to immerse the audience in an illusion of time-travel through an animated building, and leaves walls, windows and bricks longing for a palette whose hints are behind us, yet still around us. The piece is designed to, and accompanied by dramatic acoustic music by Paris-based Lebanese rapper Rayess Bek.
