This past Wednesday, as part of our collaboration with Institute of Play, Eyebeam Senior Fellow Jeff Crouse shared his work with 6th graders at Quest to Learn, a new NYC public school. Students learned about the art of the remix, and why remixing is such an important cultural tool (straight from the mouth of Lawrence Lessig (via his TED talk on the topic). With the help of volunteers from Parsons, and Q2L staff, students discussed different remix strategies used in videos posted to YouTube, and then downloaded their own videos to mash-up using iMovie. Once their masterpieces were created, students uploaded them to a shared school video space and discussed their various strategies. One student was blown away by how much you could create in such a short amount of time. Success!
