What happens when we use a brand's code to distribute our own message?

Activist group GAIA will be collaborating with Hacking Couture in this workshop.

Hacking Couture is a platform for launching new fashion creations through an open source approach of reverse engineering fashion brands and making the code available online. Hands on workshops encourage participants to create using the codes regardless of their level of fashion knowledge, and to engage in the larger fashion conversation. By understanding the coding of established fashion, this project provides a platform to empower participants to step up and create.

In April the Fairytale Fashion Show made it on ABC News. You can view the clip here.

March 9, 2010. Homegrown Harvest: Britta Riley and Rebecca Bray tend to Brooklyn’s first window farm. This form of urban agriculture is catching on in cities around the world, as downtown farmers go online to share techniques for growing greens indoors.

Last fall, I had a lot of fun being a mentor for an episode of PBS SciGirls which aired last week. I worked with 11 year old SciGirls Ariella, Hallie, and Sophia to create a super hero princess dress for the Fairytale Fashion launch party. Watch the Episode here.

I wonder how long it will be before we see technologically whimsical fashions (such as hit Diana Eng’s designs) hit the streets and not just the runways.

MAKE, CRAFT and Maker Faire were sponsors of the Fairytale Fashion show 2010 with Diana Eng , here's Phil Torrone's video!

Remember Diana Eng, the mathematician-turned-fashion designer from Project Runway’s Season 2? Eng made a return to the runway last night with her first runway show in New York City.
