Palling Around with Socialists: a group exhibition

Opening reception: Saturday, June 5th, 7:00 – 10:00 pm

I just finished writing the software which tracks your emotions using brainwave analysis. From a flashcard-style test, it creates a custom video for each participant from a melange of silent clips such as balloons floating in the sky, a tapping foot and an angry dog. This weekend Flux Factory along with The Metric System will be presenting The Science Fair, (New York), where I will showing After Thought, which I developed as a resident artist at Eyebeam Art + Technology Center.

Curators Talk: 5PM | Reception: 6-8PM

Eyebeam Art & Technology Center, in collaboration with Upgrade! NY and Not An Alternative, is pleased to presentRe:Group: Beyond Models of Consensus, an exhibition which examines models of participation and participation as a model in art and activism.

Subject sitting in darkened room is told to watch a dot of light and draw a record of its movement on paper. Dot is actually stationary. But to most normal people it seems to move around, describing a wandering, irregular track. Drawings curated by Marcel van Eeden, with Maria Forde, Johan Gustavsson, Steve Lambert, Charlie Roberts, Rebecca Shapiro, Nedko Solakov, Stephan van den Burg, Porous Walker

Total Money Makeover

Chas Bowie wrote a really tight insightful essay for the show’s mini-catalogue entitled Total Money Makeover. Pacific Northwest College of Art’s UNTITLED magazine has just re-published the essay here. A choice snippet:

About NEXT:
More than an art fair, NEXT is a showcase for the world’s talents and an adventure in cutting-edge culture. An opportunity to redefine the relationship between art and its public, NEXT is a portal to seeing contemporary art in new, innovative, eye-opening ways. NEXT  will include works from both commercial and non-commercial arts organizations–galleries, project spaces, art publications and key private contemporary collections from around the world.

The Great Recession

The Great Recession is an exhibition of new work exploring the psychic implications of this most recent burp by the American economy, late Capitalism, gold hoarding, and the end of an empire. Some of the works on display include FDIC Insured, a collection of 220+ cast off investment guide books laser engraved with the logos of all of the failed FDIC insured banks, Under the Floorboards, a video about hiding and hoarding, and 1 Million Iraqi Dinars secured in a Zero-Halliburton case.
