job

Eyebeam, an art and technology center in the Chelsea arts district of NYC, seeks assistance with a variety of events and activities starting December 2007. We are looking for people with experience in art production and/or an interest in new media art to develop a call list of people to work at a variety of activities at Eyebeam.

These short-term jobs include assistance with events and public programs such as: in-house critiques, screenings, openings, panels, lectures, performances and workshops.

Specifically, we are looking for people to assist with the following:

  • basic A/V for events (including setting up and running the sound system)
  • sound, video or photo documentation for events (including editing media files)
  • set-up and break-down for events
  • assistance with the preparation and some of the teaching of workshops
  • basic reception desk duties for the aforementioned activities
  • bartending for a variety of receptions
  • basic installation of exhibitions (including wall preparation, cabling, wiring, hanging projectors, etc.)

Certain positions may last from a few hours an evening, to up to 10 hours per week, for the duration of a program/exhibition.

Applicants will be called to come in for an interview to discuss skill sets, interests in specific Eyebeam activities, and availability. Those selected for the list will be notified and given one week to one month's notice for each event or job. Those selected for the call list will need to volunteer for one event before acquiring a paid position. Subsequently, Eyebeam will pay those chosen for the list $15.00–$25.00/hour per event—depending on activity.

Being selected for the list is not a commitment to work when called and it does not mean that you will necessarily be called to assist with an event.

To apply:

Please send an email with CV to Liz Slagus: liz AT eyebeam DOT org

Interviews for the list will be held the week of November 5, 2007.
